Meet my friend Darcel. His
miserable adventures never disappoint. And even if he is feeling down, he always comes up with an idea.
I asked him where they come from and he said he'd show me. So we wandered along the street and found ideas all around. I asked him...
Do most of your ideas come when you are out and about?Yes, it could be as simple as seeing a crazily designed Chinese take-out flyer lying in the gutter or walking past a lady screaming at a hot dog vendor on Broadway that triggers a new idea. Though I always have to put it straight in my iPhone otherwise I forget instantly.
Do you get excited when you find a new idea?Relieved more than excited.
Do they often work out the way you expect?Never, but that's part of the fun. If things came out exactly as they appear in your head, drawing would be a pretty mechanical task. It's the accidents and errors you come across and consequently embrace that make the process fun and spontaneous.
Later I suggested that Darcel try using an Idea Book to catch ideas – instead of his phone. He didn't stop there.
He added a mask and pigtails.

I love ideas.
The only trouble is,
I can't seem to ever finish them.
I decided it was time to ask
my friends for advice.
I thought it was a good idea.
They told me to stop procrastinating.
